Our Custom Crate Manufacturing Process
We follow a thorough, step-by-step process to ensure the highest quality for our custom-built crates. From selecting premium materials to delivering your finished crate on time and within budget, here’s how we craft crates designed to meet your specific shipping needs.
1. Premium Log Selection and Material Selection
- We source premium logs from qualified timber buyers.
- Logs are stored following a first-in, first-out system to maintain freshness.
- We bulk buy all of our OSB sheet goods so we can monitor quality and keep costs down.
2. Sawmill Processing
- Using a Computerized Head Rig, we achieve accurate dimensions for all lumber.
- We can cut lumber to any custom size based on your requirements.
- The lumber is then stacked properly for air drying and heat treatment.
3. Green Lumber Storage
- Our green lumber is stored in a covered facility with proper ventilation to maintain its quality before processing.
4. Heat Treatment Chambers
- Lumber is processed in heat chambers and inspected monthly by Timber Products Inspections, Inc., ensuring compliance with IPPC certifications.
- This process effectively kills all bugs and allows us to use the ISPM-15 “bug stamp” on all of our lumber products. This certification is required for all wood packaging materials leaving the US for international markets.
5. Cooked Lumber Storage
- After heat treatment, the cooked lumber is stored under a separate shelter to prevent contamination from green lumber.
6. Wood Shop
We have a complete wood shop that utilizes a range of equipment to continue refining the lumber:
- Horizontal resaw for precise cutting.
- Overhead cranes for efficient material handling.
- Cutoff saws, vertical band saws, and drill presses for detailed woodwork.
- Pneumatic nail guns and staplers for fast assembly.
- Panel saw for quick dimensioning of sheet goods
7. Metal Fabrication (If Required)
For crates requiring steel reinforcements, we have an in-house metal shop equipped with:
- Koike CNC Plasma Table for precision cutting.
- Piranha 110 Ton Brake for bending and shaping metal components.
8. Finished Product Storage
- Completed crates are stored in our dedicated shelters to protect them from the elements until delivery.
9. Delivery
- We own a fleet of trucks, ensuring fast and on-time delivery directly to your location.
